5 GALLON GROW BUCKET ADVANTAGES
The 5 gallon bucket gardening solves many of the problems conventional gardeners have to deal with.
The biggest problem that it solved for us was the soil, where we wanted a garden was worthless rocky red clay. When you mix your own soil you can have a near perfect blend of what you need to grow.
The next major problem that growing in a 5 gallon bucket solves is bucket height. You can raise the buckets up as high as needed. Short saw horses and 2x4s makes a great platform. This eliminates the bending, stooping and squatting. With a little infrastructure you will never have to bend over or squat down again to garden.
You can have a 5 gallon garden even if: you do not have a garden spot, you have a beautiful lawn you do not want to till up, have a concreted or paved over parking area, have a flat roof top, rent and suspect you will have to move. If you move take your garden with you, dirt and all. Put the buckets on your porch, deck, or patio anywhere you have sunlight. If you have security problems from two or four legged vermin, you can bring your buckets in at night and lock them up. The portability of 5 gallon bucket gardening is a key factor.
Think about the possibility of having no or very few sprigs of grass or weeds again. Have you ever had to hoe grass and weeds in the hot part of summer? I have and hated every second of it.
Do you have a shortage of water? We estimate that a plant in a 5 gallon bucket will only use about 10% of the water that is required to service a plant in a conventional garden. And water usage can be reduced even more with our new ½” thick polyurethane mulch plate. Besides killing all grass and weeds it reduces the evaporation to near zero and it is a very good insulator from the hot sun.
If you have had a conventional garden in the past you probably had to have a tiller or a tractor to work your garden spot up. With 5 gallon gardening those days are over. You will not need them ever again. You will mix your soil in a tub and hand scoop 3 ½ gallons of it into your grow bucket. No heavy equipment or fuels needed again.
Is growing organic important to you? Well you are in luck. You can be 100% certified organic from the very first second. Organic potting soil, organic compost, organic fertilizers and trace minerals are usually available at all garden centers. When you eat your own organic vegetables you know what is in them and where they came from.
Do you dislike insects on your plants? You are in luck again. Most 5 gallon buckets are so slick (high micro finish) that crawl-in bugs cannot crawl up them. Notice the 5 gallon buckets are a little shiny. If you had a microscope you could see that the polish marks are from top to bottom. This makes it easier to get the bucket out of the mold and harder for bugs to climb up the side. Now all you have to worry about are the fly-in bugs.
I have heard the complaint that 5 gallon buckets are plain looking, fair enough. Most people with beautiful landscaped back yards or decks or patios will not allow common 5 gallon buckets sitting around. Guess what? Down in Mexico they make and export to the U.S. beautiful painted pottery planters that accept a 5 gallon bucket perfectly. They are at landscaping and pottery stores. The ones I saw were about $65.00 each.
We want you to know that our 5 gallon grow bucket converter plate has a lifetime warranty. When used as designed it should last forever. The only thing that will degrade it will be if you expose it to sunlight. It is not UV protected. But in normal use it is covered with nine inches of soil so it is easy for us to give the lifetime warranty.
